Winning with the write stuff
€2 million bookmarked for Bord na Leabhar Gaeilge

How many times have you listened to a seven year old telling a tall tale, trying your best to keep a straight face in case they stop? When their imaginations run riot there’s no finer entertainment. Bord na Leabhar Gaeilge is about getting that imagination onto the printed page in living Irish. In recent years our Beneficiary Fund has been able to help by providing funding of over €2 million through the Department of Community Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.
There are stacks of Irish language authors (and wannabe authors) of all ages, bursting with great stories, and there’s a great appetite among the public for new Irish writing too. Getting them together is where Bord na Leabhar Gaeilge comes in.
Since 1952 it’s been a mentor, helping to get new Irish work to the great Irish-reading public. One way that they do it is by being involved with the prestigious Book of the Year competition. Another is through Scríobh Leabhar. You’d be surprised at how many primary schoolkids have a book waiting to leap out of them ás Gaeilge, and Scríobh Leabhar is there to help get them into print.
That’s our list of Christmas presents sorted for next year too!
