Floods of children head for the Ark

Cultural Centre for Children receives €723,000
Children have just as much entitlement to cultural experiences as adults, says the mission statement of The Ark. From their imaginative building in Temple Bar they’re resolutely determined that as many young people as possible, from ages 3-14, can set sail across seas of imagination in their purpose-built vessel of bricks and mortar.
This is Europe’s first custom-built children's cultural centre, a charitable organisation dedicated to promoting cultural work by children, for children and about children, in the centre of Dublin’s cultural district. The Ark opened in 1995 and its indoor theatre, outdoor amphitheatre, gallery spaces and workshop have hosted boatloads of events to stimulate the imaginations of the little people. Last year it received €723,000 in educational funding from the Arts Council, part of which came from the National Lottery. Here’s to many more voyages!
