Making a splash at the Outdoor Education Centre

Shielbaggan OEC like ducks to water with €55,000 funding
We’re really pleased that national school pupils and first-timers of all ages can really take the plunge at Shielbaggan Outdoor Education Centre these days. The Wexford centre got a grant of €55,000 in 2009, part-funded by the National Lottery, and they immediately invested in a fleet of beginner sit-on-top kayaks.
It’s a great way for beginners of various ages to launch into kayaking in a safe environment with skilled trainers. The centre also bought a fleet of expedition-level sea kayaks, an extremely useful addition to their seafaring capabilities because they can now offer more advanced kayaking courses around the South Wexford coastline.
We’re guessing a lot more local schools and youth groups in the southeast will be getting their feet wet, and the rest.
